Hi. I’m Jenni. I’m a mom to 3 wonderful children I never thought I could have. Let me explain.
When I was 9-years-old I started my period. I was the first person in my grade to start their period. Most girls in my grade didn’t start their periods until we were 12 or 13.
I didn’t really start experiencing severe pain until I was about 12. When I would get my period, I wasn’t able to go to school. Instead, I’d need to be home in the fetal position trying to fall asleep. Sleep was the only thing that made the pain stop. Midol DID NOT work.
My mom took me to my pediatrician, then an OBGYN. They assumed I had Endometriosis due to my mother having it diagnosed later in life as well as several female family members on my mother’s father’s side of the family. My OBGYN put me on birth control to control how many periods I’d have per year which meant I’d have periods less often and therefore pain less often. I was on birth control for an entire decade! I started out on the ‘pill,’ eventually they switched me the patch.
However, this wasn’t the answer. When I was 20-years-old I had a laparoscopy over my uterus. They officially diagnosed me with endometriosis and cut out as much of the tissue as they could. But, I still had pain. So, then my doctor ordered a colonoscopy. I had always struggled with emptying my bowels, as most other folks also have this problem, and it is not just a female issue. However, endometrial tissue can bind to your intestines causing blockages. Well, it took two rounds of disgusting stuff to drink to fully empty my bowels. Nothing appeared abnormal during the colonoscopy until after when I was told to swallow a pill that contained 24 little plastic rings in it. I was to report back to the clinic two weeks later for an x-ray. All 24 hour rings were still left in my colon, when none of them should have been.
I was told to go on a high fiber diet… that didn’t work for either my endometrial pain or my lack of ability to go the bathroom.
Fast forward 2.5 years, my MD told me that the birth control patch was coming off of the market and there no longer would be an option for me to continue only getting my period just 4x a year. I also moved at this time where I ended up at a whole foods type store after upon doing my own research for how to help my endometriosis. A very knowledgeable employee referred me to a Naturopathic Doctor an hour away.
I made an appointment. This appointment was a game changer. Instead of wanting to put me on another pharmaceutical, I was given a new way of eating and a supplement or two. I was told to come back 2 months later. This naturopathic doctor like most, don’t accept health insurance and sadly health insurance doesn’t ‘believe’ in natural health. However, she was very reasonable.
I went home planned what I would eat from this list, portioned out my meals as I worked a variety of different shifts in my job. Thankfully I’ve always been on a 28-day-cycle. However, I’d always have that migraine the day before my period would come, it was a tell tale sign! After changing my eating habits and taking a few supplements, I had NO pain! Nothing! I had NEVER experienced this! Oh, and I naturally lost about 30 pounds without trying to!
When, I returned to my follow-up appointment, she didn’t recognize me, as I looked like a completely different person and I felt so good!
Diet can be the answer! A diet that is a way of life! Not one with a quick fix but one that is a game changer!
I was also told later in life after 2 miscarriages and a lot of fertility testing that I would never have children. Getting and staying pregnant with Endometriosis was no longer just diet, it was so much more! But, I have 3 beautiful children that a doctor told me I’d never have! I didn’t get pregnant with a doctor’s help either!
I’m so excited to help you on your journey!
